Graphical Indicators with Custom Fields - Microsoft Project Server 2013 | Microsoft Project Online

Microsoft Project Server/Online facilitates with several custom fields that a user can define and use to meet their organization's needs. You can create new custom fields that full fill your specific requirement, customize an existing field and then insert it into your project,  or you can also simply rename existing fields to customize them.

Enterprise Custom Fields includes different sets of variables, option of inserting custom formulas, can use lookup tables (as defined by user) and graphical indicators to add look & feel to a value. In example below I have done same thing, I have used the Project Percentage Completion value & by using graphical indicators i have added some colors to a number value.

Step 1: On the Project Web App home page, on Settings menu, click Project Web App Settings (PWA Settings).

Step 2: Once you land on Project Web App Server Settings page, than click Enterprise Custom fields and Lookup Tables.

Step 3: In the Enterprise Custom Fields section, click New Field to create a new field or you can choose a field that you want to edit.

Step 4: Now you need to define your Custom Field, in below image I have named the field Project Health, description says "Indicates a FLAG based on current project completion status" this means that I am using '%Complete' field as an indicator here :) Entity = Project(a variable used for my projects) and Type = Number (as it returns a number)

Step 5: Now is the trick, now select the 'Formula' field & use the same syntax as shown in image below to call/get the Project Completion percentage.

Step 6: Now we have a field named 'Project Health' which returns a Percentage value in number, below we will add some condition based on value returned. Select 'Graphical Indicators' & define your conditions / criteria to display the variable. Now click Save.

Step 7: In my case I went to 'Project Center' and against each project I could see Project Completion in form of a  Graphical Display rather than just a percentage value.

Please Note:
Once you create a New Custom Field, you will need to create a New Project in order to see the New Custom Field taking effect and working.
